The coaching courses that will be delivered by Canterbury Hockey at Nunweek Park (both theory and practical) during the playing season are as follows:
Small Sticks Age 5-8
Parents, club or school coaches of athletes aged betwee 5-8 years old that mainly play a 4/6 a-side modified game.
The course is a 3 hour programme with both theory and practical components delivered over two workshops (1.5 hours each).
These workshops, mainly through practical examples, wil provide information and techniques for coaches to feel confident to coach players between the ages of 5 and 8 years of age.
Thursday 18th April 6.30pm - 8.00pm (Theory)
Thursday 2nd May 8.00pm - 9.30pm (Practical)
Cost per person $55.00. You will received an excellent resource folder and a year's subscription to the on line Sportsplan site. The site includes drills, video footage and new coaching information.

Youth Course Age 13-19
Parents, club or school coaches of athletes aged betwee 13-19 years old.

These workshops, mainly through practical examples, wil provide information and techniques for coaches to feel confident to coach players between the ages of 13 and 19 years of age.

Coaches at senior club level.
The course is a 4 hour programme with both theory and practical components delivered over two workshops (2 hours each).
These workshops, mainly through practical examples, wil provide information and techniques for coaches to feel confident to coach players from the age of seventeen and up.

Other Coaching Support Available
Mentoring
Attending courses and seminars can provide a coach with the knowledge to coach the sport, but it is not until that knowledge is put into practice that a coach gains an understanding of what it is they need to know and how to apply that knowledge. For that reason coaches should have a mentor, someone who can attend the occasional practice, provide feedback, suggestions and allow for the discussion of ideas. Any coaches wanting a mentor are asked to contact Sunjay Ganda, CHA Participation & Development Manager.
