The 2008 U15 Val Nesbitt Carnival

The 2008 Under 15 Val Nesbit Carnival was held at Western Suburbs Badminton Associaiton, Altona, from the 30th September to the 4th October 2008.

In the Teams Event, Victoria 1 defeated NSW 1 in the playoff for 1st and 2nd placings in the Val Nesbitt Teams Event. The Victoria team (Hu-Wen Chew, Matthew Chau, Wilson Tang, Louisa Ma, Vinning Mak and Sarah Wong) completed a powerful 7-1 victory to finish with 37 victories from their 40 completed matches. Congratulations to the players, the coach (Xin Jiang), their assistant coach (Jane Marney), the managers (Vicki and Andrew Paulet) and umpire (Greg Pilven).

The Victoria 2 team made it a double celebration when they defeated Western Australia 7-1 to finish in 3rd place. The team (Sawan Serasinghe, Athithan Selladurai, Lucas Rais-Colvin, Ruwindi Serasinghe, Rojini Selladurai and Natasha David) were expecting a tough match with the "sand-groppers", but played some outstanding badminton to dominate the tie. Thanks to their coach (Jacky Chen), manager (Philip McNally) and umpire (Margaret Anderson).

The Regional Teams Challenge was won by the Western Suburbs Buccaneers who defeated the young Badminton Academy of Victoria team. The Gippsland team finished in 3rd spot.

The carnival now moves on to the individual event (The Australian Under 15 Championships) to be contest over the next three days.

Whilst in the Individuals, Victorian players have continued their dominant performance at the Val Nesbitt Carnival by taking out four of the five individual titles. The results are as follows:

The Jan and Ross Synot Sportsmanship Award was won by Ruwindi Serasinghe (VIC).

The sportsmanship award for the participants in the Regional Teams Challenge was won by Shaun Matthews (WSBA).
