With over 800 players at the recent World Masters Games in Sydney, badminton was one of the Games highest participation sport. In fact those numbers made it one of biggest badminton tournaments ever held in Australia!

Many Victorian teams made the journey up to Sydney, including the Monash Blues, which were lead by Badminton Victoria president Loke Poh Wong.

Following from being crowned the Australian Masters Mixed Team Champion (45+ age category) during the Australian Masters Games back in February held in Geelong, the same team is now the World Masters Games Champion after defeating Teams from other countries including New Zealand, Canada and Malaysia to take the Gold medal for the 45+ Competitive category.

In the individual event that followed  the teams event, Loke Poh Wong also won Gold in the Mens Singles for his age category; as well as gold in the Mixed Doubles, playing with his wife Yoke Mui Wong; and a bronze medal in the Mens Doubles, partnering Yoke Weng Yong.

Congratulations to the many other Victorian teams and individual players who participated in the Games and especially those who won medals!
