2012 U18 AJC & Kevin Coombs Cup: Day 6
It was the final day of regular round competition in the U18 AJC, and teams were looking for spots in the finals. Here's how the results went in a big day of competition.
U18 Men's Competition
The team from Tasmania enjoyed a big win over Queensland North early on day 6, running away with the 88-42 victory. For the Tassie boys, Tanner Krebs had a massive 30 points off 12-22 shooting. For Queensland, Tom Howard had 10 points. [Box Score]
Next up, VIC Metro faced off against WA Metro and after a reasonably balanced first term, the VICs taking a 28-20 lead at the first change, it was all Victoria from then on, running away with the 106-50 win.
Ben Simmons finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds for VIC Metro, while Jack Fletcher finished with 17 points for WA. [Box Score]
Northern Territory were still chasing their first win when they met NSW Country, but it wouldn’t come on day 6, the team from NSW dominating and
securing an 81-31 victory.
For NSW Country Brock Dries finished with 27 points, while for the NT, they had three players register seven points. [Box Score]
Another team who has struggled to put together a winning scoreline this tournament has been SA Country and their match-up against the ACT gave them little respite. The final score was 85-33.
For ACT, Iain Morison and Jordan Phillips both finished with 18 points each, while for SA Country, Peter Steffe finished with eight points. [Box Score]
The first of the two evening games saw the New Zealand team secure their first win of the tournament getting up over WA Country 88-73. An 11 point lead at half time was all the team from across the Tasman needed to secure victory. For NZ, Finn Patrick King Delany finished with 19 points, while Tohiraukura Makaere Smith-Milner double-doubled with 11 points and 13 rebounds. For the WA side, Jack Stone and Jonathon Marsh both finished with 18 points. [Box Score]
In the final game of the day, VIC Country faced NSW Metro, and it was the NSW side that moved through to the finals rounds on a high, defeating the VICs 73-37. For NSW Metro, Gerard Martin finished with 16 points, while fore the VIC Country team, Jack Saunders was best with 8 points. [Box Score]
U18 Women’s Competition
WA Metro battled NSW Country in the first game of the final day of competition before finals. WA Metro were victorious in this clash, taking the win in a close one 52-49. Desiree Kelley top-scored for the WA team with 16 points, while for NSW, Georgia Ohrdorf dropped 19 points for the game. [Box Score]
Next up it was the battle of the top-end as QLD North took the NT, with the Queenslanders coming away with a big 76-45 win. Georgia Williams top-scored for the Queensland team with 16 points, while for the NT, Carla Jones finished with 13 points. [Box Score]
Tasmania defeated SA Metro 69-49 in their clash on the final day of regular round action. Mariah Payne dominated proceedings with 26 points and nine rebounds for the game for Tasmania, while for SA, Jasmine Trimboli finished with 10 points. [Box Score]
