Gliders take Silver in London Warm-Up
The Australian Gliders women’s wheelchair basketball team have continued their impressive form in the lead up to London, taking Silver at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester.
Coming off a victory over the USA in Germany only a week prior, the Gliders made it two wins in a row over the reigning World and Paralympic champions on their way to the tournament final.
Cobi Crispin and Sarah Stewart combined for 27 points to help the Gliders to a 54-40 win over the USA, further enhancing our medal prospects for London.
Crispin was again the star putting on a show in the 43-25 win over host Great Britain, compiling 26 points and 11 rebounds and was well supported by Amber Merritt who dominated the glass with 17 rebounds.
Despite an opening game loss to Germany, the Gliders qualified for the Gold Medal play-off, but were forced to settle for Silver as the Germans once again proved too strong.
The team returns to Australian shores this week after successful tournaments in the UK and Germany, with the final selection camp to be held in Perth from June 4-6.
The 2012 London Paralympic Games run from 29 August to 9 September.
