2011 WOMEN'S INDOOR WORLD CUP TEAM

The Australian Women's Indoor Hockey team arrived in Leipzig, Germany on Monday to begin the first stage of preparation in the lead up to the FIH World Cup to be held in Poznan, Poland 8-13 February 2011.

They began with a day of sight-seeing to settle in after over 24 hours in transit to reach Leipzig. A major highlight today was visiting the Monument to the Battle of Nations, a major landmark in Leipzig and for Europe as it commemorates the defeat of Emperor Napolean Bonaparte at the hands of the armed forces of Russia, Prussia, Sweden and Austria in 1812.

Wednesday training begins in earnest, with a skills session followed by a match against the German Youth team. The team is also preparing to participate in the 25th Pokal der Messerstadt in Leipzig over 21-23 January, along with representative teams from Germany, Belarus, Amsterdam, Ukraine and England.

Players are looking forward to the challenge that this tournament and the following weeks will present.
