MIKE’S COLUMN – SPECTRES SEABL WOMEN.

April 26, 2009

NOTE: Mike's Column is written for the Gameday program this weekend.

Today Spectres women meet Frankston in what I expect will prove to be a hard and interesting encounter and if anything like the first meeting of these teams a high quality match. Frankston have a team littered with WNBL standard players and will be expected to be part of this year’s finals. They are well coached and play with passion and pride and will be a very difficult opponent today.

Frankston boasts a strong back court of Deanne Butler, Kylie Reid, Sheree Johnson and Jaime Wallis add to this talented group Hanna Zavecz, Cassie Dover, Marita Payne and ex-Spectres junior Megan Bermingham and you have a solid group that is the equal of any team in the competition.

The Spectres girls have worked hard on the training court this week to set themselves for a good game at home, we will certainly be eager to give a good showing of ourselves in what we believe will be a close encounter.

We have put a lot of planning into this game on the practice court this week, and hopefully we will show case all our hard work with an attractive style of basketball.

Our defence last weekend against Dandenong was outstanding and we kept our opposition to a losing score. Our ability to score regularly has improved significantly and is quickly becoming a strength. Keeping teams to under 50 as we showed we will do during this season shows how tough we will be defensively, and with the development of what we need to do offensively we have focused on this week we will be a much better prepared and much better equipped team today. We will show another advance at both ends of the court as we present another aspect to our defence and a couple of offensive adjustments.

We hope all our supporters enjoy the game and hopefully another Spectres triumph over a very tough opponent.

GO SPECTRES
