The Jayco Australian Opals will face Brazil, Great Britain, Russia and two qualifiers in their pool for the 2012 London Olympics.

The Jayco Australian Opals will face stiff competition on their journey toward a fifth consecutive Olympic Medal, following the draw for the Women’s and Men’s tournaments in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Opals will face Brazil, host nation Great Britain, joint world number two Russia and two qualifiers in the first round of the tournament. In a boost the draw saw the Opals avoid a match-up with reigning Gold Medallists the USA.

In what is sure to be a memorable tournament the Opals will get their first taste of Brazil ahead of the Olympics as part of the Farewell Series: Basketball’s Road to London in June.

Tickets for opening Double Header with the Australian Boomers at Hisense Arena are now on sale through Ticketek. CLICK HERE for more information and to purchase tickets.

Former Opals and current Bulleen Boomers Head Coach Tom Maher takes the reigns of Great Britain, hoping to use his detailed inside knowledge of the national team and domestic scene to the advantage of his hosting squad.

European powerhouse Russia is sure to provide the sternest of tests in the pool matches, while the remaining two spots in the pool will be decided in Turkey at the 2012 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
