At a staggering six-foot-six, Saskatoon product Krista Phillips is a sizeable centre looking to make an impact at the Olympic qualifiers in Turkey.
A highly touted prospect following her graduation from Aden Bowman Collegiate, Phillips played Division I basketball for the University of Michigan Wolverines in National Collegiate Athletic Association. She has also honed her talents playing for the Dandenong Rangers in Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League. In her best season with the Wolverines, Phillips racked up 341 points, 190 rebounds and 34 assists.
She’s excited to try to resurrect Canada’s presence at the Olympic Summer Games.
“We have players who have been with the program for eight years and have never made it so I think that’s a core thing,” said Phillips. “We want those who aren’t going to be playing next year we want them to experience that. This is the pay off.”
Regina native Krysten Boogaard will also join the ranks of Team Canada for the upcoming Olympic trials.
